We are so glad you are considering baptism! Please take some time to review the
information below to discover more about this very meaningful and significant next step
in your walk with Christ.

Why Should You Be Baptized?

To follow the example set by Jesus.
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by
John in the Jordan. (Mark 1:9)

Because Jesus commanded it.
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth
has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples on all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew
28:18-20)

It demonstrates that you are truly a believer and follower of Jesus.
And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his
commandments. (1 John 2:3)

What is the Meaning of Baptism?

It illustrates the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that
Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was
buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the
Scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

…having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also
raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised
him from the dead. (Colossians 2:12)

It illustrates your new life as a Christian.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has
passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that,
just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too
might walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4)

Baptism doesn’t make you a Christian

Only trusting in Jesus and His free gift of salvation by grace through
faith are you made a Christian. Baptism is like a wedding ring – it?s the
outward sign of the commitment you have made in your heart and with
your life. (see Ephesians 2:8-9)

Who Should Be Baptized?

Every person who has believed in, trusted, and surrendered to Jesus as God, Savior,
and Lord. A believer is someone who has realized that their sin has separated them
from God. They have given up all efforts to reach God through good works or religious
activity. They have concluded that Jesus? death on the cross for their sins is the only
thing that can bridge the gap between them and God. A believer is someone who has
decided to trust Jesus alone for salvation. If you have come to that point, then you are
ready to be baptized. (Acts 2:41; 8:12-13)

What About Children?

The New Testament shows no example of baptism when the candidate did not request
it. All instances of baptism followed an individual?s decision to trust Jesus alone for
salvation (Acts 2:41; 8:12; 10:47-48). At Project Church, we wait until the child is old
enough to believe and understand the gospel, to trust Jesus alone for salvation, and to
understand the proper meaning of baptism. When a child makes the decision to follow
Jesus, we gladly baptize them according to the Scriptures.

Some churches practice a “baptism of confirmation” for children. This custom began
about 300 years after the Bible was completed. This was a time when the parents
pledged their commitment to raise their child according to Christian values and beliefs.
While a very meaningful event, this is not Christian baptism.

We offer a similar opportunity for parents through our child dedication services. As the
purpose of baptism is to publicly confess your personal commitment to Jesus, it is
strongly recommended that every Christian person be baptized as an adult believer,
even if you were “confirmed” as a child.

What about Infant Baptism?

In the Bible, we find parents bringing children to Jesus. He held them, prayed for them
and told us to welcome them. But He did not baptize them, and He did not tell anyone
else to baptize them. It is biblical to wait until after a personal decision to trust Jesus for
salvation has been made by the child. If baptism signifies salvation, as the Bible
teaches, only people who have intentionally received salvation should experience
baptism.

If you have not experienced believer?s baptism, even though you have experienced
baptism as an infant, the full meaning and significance of baptism has yet to take place
in your life. We strongly encourage you to be baptized as an adult follower of Jesus.

When Should You Be Baptized?

You can be baptized as soon as you have believed. Baptism should follow your decision
to trust Jesus for salvation. There is no reason to delay. If you wait until you feel good
enough, we would never be ready for baptism. (See Acts 2:41; 8:35-38)

Take the next step…

If you would like to be baptized, please contact us via email or complete a connection
card during our Sunday gathering.

Project Church gives away half our offering to be good news to the poor, fight human trafficking, & help start start new churches. Find out how you can help!

In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus read these words about himself. Words that echo to us today and inspire us to be more like him.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

At Project Church, we give away half our offering to be good news to the poor, join the fight against human trafficking & sex slavery around the world, and help start gospel-driven churches.

GOOD NEWS TO THE POOR
In our city and in our world, there are so many needs. People hungry, thirsty, enslaved, needing shelter, lacking essentials, and suffering from disease and malnutrition.

We’re committed to helping. The needs are vast, and we know we can’t change every story, but we can change some. And some are better than none.

From serving at schools, to raising funds for our local women and children’s shelter, to assisting with relief efforts in Haiti, we want to live out what we believe.

FREEDOM FOR THE ENSLAVED
Freedom comes in many forms. So does slavery. We are committed to helping people live free in many ways however, one particular cause has broken our hearts: human trafficking and sex slavery. With two children sold every minute with an estimated 27 million souls crying out for freedom, we must do something!

This is why we’re partnering with causes dedicated to ending human trafficking around the world.

START NEW CHURCHES
We believe the most effective way to join God in his mission in the world is through starting fresh expressions of gospel-driven churches.

The gospel of grace found in Jesus is the greatest news to ever hit humanity. Our love for him compels us to love others and join together in communities of faith to become more like Jesus.

There’s no greater cause than the gospel and no better vehicle than through local churches who are on mission.

Please consider investing in what Project Church is doing both locally and around the world. It’s only possible with the generosity of people like you.

Giving half our offering away is a huge leap of faith for our new church and we’re trusting that God will provide for all of our needs. Following him is one grand adventure and we’re just getting started. Partner with us!

To give securely and quickly via PayPal, click the donate button below or mail a check to P.O. Box 9032. Rapid City, SD 57709.

As a new church, every little bit helps.

Thank you so much for your generosity.

What is a Missional Community?

Missional communities are the primary way we connect with others and live our lives together on mission at Project Church. These smaller groups of people (6-20) provide an opportunity to know others and be known within our community. Through these relationships, we mutually challenge and encourage one another to live the lives we are meant to live as followers of Christ.

Each missional community identifies their unique mission (that ties to our mission to go and make disciples who love God and people) and meets regularly to eat, learn, pray, share, party, and be together on mission, living out the Gospel in real and tangible expressions.

While our corporate gatherings are important, missional communities are the heartbeat of our church and are the vehicle for most of the church’s ministry. It is our desire that everyone would be a part of a missional community wherever they are on their spiritual journey.

What do Missional Communities do?
Throughout a given month, we encourage each missional community to meet for several weeks to share stories, pray, and explore and have a conversation around Scripture, a good book, etc. One week focused on a service project to meet a tangible community need, and one week where you just have a big party with each other and friends from outside the group.

In addition to weekly times of gathering, we encourage spontaneous connection, practicing hospitality with others, and simply doing life together.

Finally, it’s our intention that each missional community grow and birth new missional communities for the good of our city and to the glory of God.

What About the Children?
We love kids! They are significant members of our missional communities. And while each group has freedom as to how children will be connected in the community, here are some ideas to help figure out how to keep them engaged.

Rotate an adult (or two) to be in charge of the kids each week.

Pool a few bucks each & hire a person (or two) to come in & babysit each week.

Incorporate children into your meeting and be understanding when they don’t act like an adult.

Tips, Hints, and Other Things

As a group, give your missional community a name.

Eat together –People open up around food. Plus, it’s what Jesus did.

Missional Communities don’t have to meet at the leader’s place. You can meet in someone else’s place or at a public venue (coffee shop, pub, etc.)

Make new people feel welcomed & make proper introductions.

An easy way to kick-off your meeting is to do highs & lows. Go around the group and share highs from the last week and the low’s.

Tie your Bible study to that week’s message.

Celebrate milestones, birthdays, etc. Care for one another during difficulties.

When the group gets to around 16-20 people, it’s time to start thinking about splitting. Remember, making disciples & multiplying missional communities is the goal.

Avoid being a clique or a spiritual cul-de-sac. Be externally focused.

Experiment. Don’t be afraid to try new things.

Always be inviting people. It’s a relational network.

Keep it positive, avoid gripe sessions, and don’t be weird.
